How to remove hem from denim jacket?

I bought a levis jean jacket thats short on the bottom. I want to extend the bottom part by opening the hem to add a few inches.

Has anyone tried this before? Can tailors do this?

I’d really appreciate your suggestions.

Before you do anything check to see how wide the seam for the hem is and then there would also be approximately 5/8″ that is folded over for the seam. Add these two together to see if it will give you enough material to make the length you want. If it does not don’t rip it out. There is something you can do and that is to get a darker color denim and add that to the bottom. I would also put some of it on the bottom of the sleeves and on the collar to make it look like it was the way it was made. If this is what you want you can let out the hem but check to see if where it was folded over shows a mark all around the bottom. You do not have to go to a tailor to have a hem let out! You can do it yourself. Some of the sewing looks like a lot of thread and makes a pattern ov “V’s”. If that is the case you have to find the right spot and just pull. If its a straight line start the removal of the thread and then pull the hem from the front and spread the thread and snip it and it will go faster but be careful you to snip do not anything but the thread. If you are tired put it down and wait till later as you dont want to ruin the jacket. If I can help you any further check my avitar and e-mail me.
