Help Lumina Car Alternator/Battery Cables?
Hello i need a little help ok i have a 1998 chevy lumina 3.8 police edition, now when i placed a battery in the car and left the car turned off for a day the battery went dead. i checked my alternator and i see a red & black wire connected to the same post. The Redwire leads somewhere and black wire leads no where its about 4 ft and connected with a tie strap onto a wire cover does that black wire suppose connected as a ground of the car or ?? Also the end of the black wire is corroded.. Also my friend has had my car for months & installed subs/amps the music has a capacitor and a inline fuse holder leading to the + side of my battery.. My Main Question is, does that black wire suppose to be there? is that causing my power to go out quickly?i havent noticed it before and i recently got the car back dont now if he got it ghetto rigged for music or what thanks alot
the ONLY wire attached to the BATT post of the alternator should be red wire directly to battery.
black wire ground to frame or batt should be attached to the frame or mount of the alt
